Welcome to Kimbles Roots!

We’re a family-run Eastern Appalachian apothecary nestled in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Our small business is inspired by many things, a love for tried-and-true Appalachian folk remedies, countless adventures, and many years gaining herbal and foraging knowledge. Kimbles Roots is also inspired by many long hours of family research, following the Kimbles ancestors and extended families’ stories through the wilds of Eastern Appalachia (Parts of WV, Ohio, some interesting other countries, and all the way back here to Pittsburgh, PA).

We trace our roots through stories passed down by mom, Teresa (she had ten kids, folks-TEN), through collaboration with extended branches and “roots” of our family, and through countless cherished late-night phone calls swapping family lore with our favorite cousin, Pixie.

Our “Kimbles Roots” include everything from farmers like Minnie and John Henry, to coal miners, carpenters, Union soldiers like Asa, and also according to family lore, an accused “witch”or two. The eccentric Dutch “sake drinking” many times Great Grandma Bayard (Varlett)-who was imprisoned (and survived), as well as the “salt sprinkling” many times Great Aunt Sarah.

The Kimbles have always been known for three things:

Their Perseverance

Their Big Families

Their Strong Cheekbones

Kimbles Roots isn’t just about our wild family though.

It’s about the Appalachian journey, herbalism, life experiences, holistic healing, and lots of other fun bits of info gathered while reading many hours, sifting through piles upon piles of historical books and records.

(Some a bit dustier than others)

Many practical stories have been passed down too, From making rose salves, to digging American ginseng—and more.

We are proud to carry on this craft—not only to help you learn, but also to encourage taking a brief moment to stop, slow down, and smell the roses from time to time in our ever-modern, ever-changing world.

Think of us as your friendly neighborhood herbalists, with a dash of good ole mountain magic thrown in for good measure.

—-—————————————————————-Some roots in our tree—and yours—may run deeper than others. Some branches may be closer or further apart, but one thing is for sure.

We are all connected, y’all.

Life Is Many Things

Sometimes it is the simple joy of reading a book during a thunderstorm. Sometimes it’s discovering a new favorite plant, or exchanging a warm hello with your neighbor. Sometimes it’s joyful, sometimes it’s sorrowful—but regardless of different views, worship paths, skin tones, orientations, or identities, we are all family.

At Kimbles Roots, we’re guided by a few simple, deeply rooted values:

Diversity:

Appalachia (and the world, for that matter) is a melting pot of cultures, and we celebrate the beauty of our differences. We’re committed to creating a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone.

Inclusion:

We believe natural wellness should be accessible to all. We strive to offer effective, natural products that cater to a diverse range of needs and backgrounds. We’re honored to craft all-natural products for Every Body.

Kindness:

We treat our customers, community, and planet with kindness and respect. We believe small acts of compassion can make a big difference.

Natural, Tried-and-True Products:

From our salves to our teas, we craft all of our products using quality natural ingredients. We believe in the power of natural goodness, using time-honored recipes—and some new ones too—without harsh chemicals or artificial additives.

We source our ingredients from all over, but keep things close to home whenever possible, partnering with local and diverse other small businesses and ethical suppliers too.

We are also mindful when foraging the limited-run, wildcrafted, and seasonal products you’ll occasionally see on the site (depending on availability), ensuring what we create is good for both you and Mother Earth.

It’s our honor to create natural, honest products for all, right here in “The Paris of Appalachia. Whether our branches come from the same tree, or our roots and fruits grow in different shapes and colors, We’re all in this together.—————————————————————-—-
